Fredis a good ole country boy who only dreams of a farm of his own one day; a piece of land for his self, a safe place to keep his dog, cover for his tractor and van. The house and all that will come with that will come in time he knew. First things first however, driving lessons from grandpa was the first step whiletrying to growing up too fast in West Texas.

Usually these lessons are done on a tractor in a wide open field, much safer there as well, around the age of 12. Oh ya, 12 year old boys do drive tractors on their papa's farms; not completely unheard of for a daughter to do this as well.

It's a fact and it does happen all over the country that children of farmers have always helped with the farm from getting up a couple of hours before dawn to milk the cows and feed the chickens before catching the big yellow bus to get to school. Only to come back home mid-afternoon, to catch the evening chores grab something to eat, do their home work and all of this before an early bedtime.

Keeping up with all of the tools is usually left to the youngest young adult male in the household, currently Fred's job. By keeping hoes, picks and shovels amongst other tools in top working condition earns him respect and that is something all strive for on a farm. Mainly, his job is to make sure they are all in good working order. Should anything need sharpening it is his job to inform the adult males of the house so they can be dealt with before they are put into use the next time? He is on hand for the honing of the dull tools so he will learn first from watching the chore performed. He’s safe in the watching, not old enough to do the hands on training as yet. Being safe on the farm like any other work place is a very important part of farm life.

motoring to and from the field is usually done on a tractor. The tractor is one of the most important motoring tools on any farm. The weekly motoring into town once a week for supplies is another trip for either the pickup truck or the van. Most of the time, the truck will get the job done. During winter months, movingsupplies that do nottolerate water is a job for the van. When Fred is old enough he will get that chore, motoring in to town to get supplies. Until then he will just have to be secure in the knowledge his turn in all things will comein time.
